Lodwar • Turkana County • CBO 2014 → NGO 2022
Capacity building, community empowerment and service delivery for deprived and marginalized pastoralists — 800,000+ people across 4 sub-counties.

Who We Are
In 2014, professionals working in the development sector formed a CBO to address Turkana's most urgent needs. Named Agency for Turkana Development Initiatives (ATUDIS), it transitioned from CBO to registered NGO in September 2022. Focus is deliberately broad — geography and sector — from capacity building to service delivery, always with (a) community involvement at grassroots level and (b) mobilizing communities for peace, tolerance and development.
ATUDIS envisions a community with no one living in poverty, accessing decent standards, opportunities and choices essential to a long, healthy and sustainable life.
To work with vulnerable communities to create sustainable socio-economic development through development initiatives and humanitarian aid that alleviate poverty, improve living standards and impart positive social transformation.
To contribute towards improved standards of living for the Turkana community through community mobilization, capacity building, advocacy and strengthening of institutions at grassroots level.
Our Key Programs
Below are the key foundational programs. Select a pillar for approach, activities and highlights.
Part of our strategic plan is to improve access to safe drinking water for displaced, affected and most vulnerable households: construction of boreholes, rehabilitation of pipes and troughs, training of water operators and Water User Associations on water governance.

Testimonials

Influenced by the new development paradigm which puts people before things, ATUDIS follows a participatory approach in every sphere of its work. Traditional knowledge of the rural poor is valued and respected. Participation across identification, planning, management, implementation and evaluation is key — building on local institutions, not parallel structures.
